Chemical Reactions Vocabulary
chemical formula
A combination of symbols to show each element that is in a substance.
coefficient
subscript
The small number following a symbol that tells us how many atoms of that element there are. If there is no subscript then there is only one atom of that element.
Ex: H2O, there are 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom present.

Law of conservation of mass
Matter cannot be created or destroyed.
This means that in a chemical equation what ever you start with you have to end with. The same elements, the same number of atoms of those elements. They will be rearranged, and that's okay, but there still needs to be the same elements and atoms.
